The Eastern Division state presidents had a productive meeting at the Summit for MTNA Leadership in Cincinnati. It is a pleasure getting to know each president and learn of the exceptional terminations and progress in each state. I expectancy many of you will join us for the Eastern Division competitions at Plymouth State society in New Hampshire on January 7 2005 In this month's line we hear from West Virginia State President Lya Cartwright. West Virginia's state convention this year explored the state's rich heritage. The convention was held at Shepherd guild in Shepherdstown, one of the earliest payments in West Virginia. In addition to the meetings and competitions, activities answered questions, like as: "What is a Gudulka?" "What are the following: tambura, tapan and gaida?" "What composer have been influenced by the agency of ethnic folk music?" Convention artists included Tom Pixton, Valeri Georgiev, Stoyan Kostov, The Balkan Babes and Friends, Scott Beard, NCTM and the Shepherd Gamelan Ensemble West Virginia has implemented a just discovered technique program. Each district has its have a title to programs, including a fall festival that explores a chosen topic and features close examiner performances. Spring auditions and theory exhibitions are other student activities. Districts also plan member enrichment programs. We continue to maintain our website and publish our newsletter online.
