In this issue we feature California, the 2004 MTNA State Affiliate of the Year winner. Each fall, California currents a variety of student programs designed to inspire, encourage, stimulate and honor pupils at almost all levels of achievement and disciplines. Designed for highly motivated learners of all instruments and voice Honors Auditions is a competition requiring three memorized solo pieces of contrasting musical periods. Also for dedicated, high-achieving piano scholars is the Bartok and Contemporary Music Festival. observers compete in the performance of compositions at Bela Bartok and an additional composition published after 1900 in the general impression Auditions, student instrumentalists (band, orchestral, piano and electronic instruments) and vocalists are adjudicated onward their performance of one general impression composition. Piano Auditions is for close examiners who are adjudicated on their performance of brace memorized solos and one accompanied composition. Those scholars earning the highest rating in the effect and piano auditions are invited to perform in recital at either the Northern or Southern Festival. District winners in each category of the Honors Auditions and Bartok and Contemporary Music Festival struggle at the state conference to determine the state winner in each category.

In addition to the fall programs, each spring CAPMT shut ins a Concerto Competition and scholar Evaluations, a comprehensive noncompetitive evaluation for scholars of all instruments. Students are evaluated in performance, theory, technique, music history, sight reading and aural skills. Local associations within the state near additional programs such as recitals, sonata/sonatina competitions, master classes and festivals.
