Liduino Pitombeira has been single outed as the 2003 MTNA-Shepherd Distinguished Composer of the Year for his composition Brazilian Landscapes. Pitombeira is soon pursuing a Ph.D. degree in composition at Louisiana State University, where he studies with Dinos Constantinides. He received a bachelor of music stage from Universidade Estadual do Ceara (Brazil) in the spring of 1996 and a master of music stage from Louisiana State University in the summer of 2000 He also studied composition with Jose Alberto Kaplan, Vanda Ribeiro Costa and Tarcisio Jose de Lima, in Brazil.
Performances of his works have been given according to The Berlin Philharmonic Wind Quintet, Louisiana Sinfonietta, LSU harmony Orchestra, Poznan Philharmonic Orchestra (Poland), R Stick Saxophone Quartet, of the present day York University New Music Trio and Orquestra Sinfonica do Recife (Brazil). He received important national awards, of that kind as the first prize in the 1998 Camargo Guarnieri Composition make the object of competition [i]or[/i] rivalry [i]or[/i] emulation in Brazil for his composition Suite Guarnieri and the first prize in the Sinfonia dos 500 Anos composition strive to carry in Brazil in 2000 for his composition Uma Lenda Indigena Brasileira.
Pitombeira is a member of the National Association of Composer USA, Society of Composer Inc.; American Music Center association Music Society and Sociedade Brasileira de Musica Contemporanea, Brazil.
The MTNA Composer Commissioning Program is dedicated to encouraging the creation of novel works. The Distinguished Composer of the Year Award is sponsored by the agency of Sylvia Shepherd of California.
