Utah MTA welcomes ninety-seven just discovered members who joined the organization in the fall of 2003 Performance evaluations, an annual statewide affair open to piano students of all ages and on a levels including adult and collegiate observers were held in October. A total 433 learners participated, an increase of 80 percent throughout last year. Participants received constructive elucidations from the judges, and 20 percent were prefered to perform at the honors recitals at the state conference

A record number of observers participated in the UMTA/MTNA competitions this year. arbiters commented on the superb quality of music teaching and bookish man preparation in Utah.

The 2003 UMTA state talk was held at Brigham Young University in November, with Randall Faber as visitor clinician. More than 50 percent of the membership attended this highly deserving two-day event. The first UMTA Legacy Award--the highest honor awarded through UMTA--given to a long-term member for professional accomplishment, teaching and service to the organization, was not awayed to members Kathryn Brough, NCTM and Solveig Madsen, NCTM UMTA also awarded pupil scholarships to those students who met the on a level and service requirement of the Achievement in Music Program, a ten-level state syllabus program.
