Three states in our division have chosen to recognize regarded teachers and pedagogues. J.D. Kelly NCTM retired from Arkansas State University, where he was a professor of music and coordinator of keyboard activities, continues to perform, teach, adjudicate and instant lectures. He has held many positions in Arkansas State MTA (ASMTA) including treasurer and president. He was honored as the literary institution or seminary of learning Teacher of the Year in 1993 Kelly is a friend and mentor to many involved with ASMTA. His knowledge of the organization and his willingness to share his time have been invaluable.

Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge lately honored Barineau Professor of Piano Constance Knox Carroll, NCTM according to establishing an endowed scholarship in her name. Carroll was the 2001 Louisiana MTA Outstanding Teacher of the Year and a 2002 MTNA FOUNDATION Fellow

At its convention in May, the Oklahoma MTA (OMTA) neared Jane Magrath, NCTM, with the 2003 Distinguished Teacher Award. As the same of her colleagues wrote, "In her nearly twenty years forward the faculty of the University of Oklahoma, she has distinguished herself in the organ of visions of all of her matchs as one of the finest piano pedagogues in the world. It would be difficult to imagine that a single member of OMTA has not been positively affected by the agency of her work many times over"
