In an article entitled "The Wellness Movement" C Norman Shealy, MD PhD traced the sources of the wellness movement back to the days of the ancient grecians and the Olympic Games (see www.shealyhealthnet.com/wellness_movement.htm).

across the past thirty years, the mental action has expanded exponentially to include emphases onward nutrition, physical exercise and various visible form [i]or[/i] frame therapy approaches, including Alexander, Rolfing and Feldenkreis, to name yet a few. The increasing interest in wellness, of course, has had a deep-felt impact on musicians, especially through the last ten years.

MTNA has been a leader in the "musician wellness" emotion for many years. In addition to interview sessions and AMT articles forward the subject, the MTNA "Annotated Bibliography forward Musician Wellness," compiled by MTNA member Linda Cockey work fors as a primary resource for all who are interested in the topic. In fact, the end of a brief web search in succession "musician wellness" designates this resource in the first couple entries.

In our continuing commitment to musician wellness, we are haughty to devote this entire issue of AMT to this vital area of research and practice. Of course, our focus is forward the music teacher. The first article, "Using the Body's Wisdom to open Technique," by Jacqueline Herbein, focuses upon how the body works in relation to an instrument and the importance of passing this information from teacher to scholar Two articles deal with issues for the small-handed pianist--"Strategies for Small-Handed Pianists," by the agency of Lora Deahl and Brenda Wristen, and "Goldilocks Had a Choice," by means of Carl Leone. Ruth Burnham's "Perspectives onward Performance for Elementary-Level Piano Students" discusses the pro and learn by hearts of public performance for younger scholars The issue concludes with the latest installment of the "Annotated Bibliography upon Musician Wellness," by Cockey and Kathryn Kalmanson.
